Chapter 8 - LENA FINALLY APOLOGIZED CORRECTLY

Two years after the bat, Lena asked to talk.
No lawyers.
No custody negotiation.
Just us.
We met at a coffee shop.
She had a notebook.
“I wrote something because I don’t want to explain instead of apologize.”
That was promising.
She read:
“I chose my relationship with Travis over information that should have changed how I protected Noah.”
Silence.
“I saw him grab Noah.”
My chest tightened.
“I saw him yell.”
She continued.
“I let Travis convince me Noah was difficult instead of asking why my child was afraid of him.”
Tears filled her eyes.
“I hid what I knew from you because I knew you would remove Travis from Noah’s life.”
There.
“And I wanted Travis in mine.”
She cried.
No excuse.
No “I was manipulated” as an escape hatch.
Then:
“I love Noah.”
Her voice broke.
“But love did not make my choices safe.”
That sentence mattered most.
I nodded.
“Thank you.”
She looked at me.
“Do you forgive me?”
I thought carefully.
“Some days.”
She gave a sad laugh.
“Fair.”
“And some days I still want to scream at you.”
“Also fair.”
No forced closure.
But truth.
That was enough to continue co-parenting.
Not trust without limits.
A new kind.
Built from verification.
Behavior.
May you like
Time.
