PART 2: THE TRUTH IN FRONT OF EVERYONE

No one moved.
The ballroom that had been filled with laughter and music became completely silent.
Ryan stared at Emily's bruises.
His perfect image was breaking right in front of him.
"Emily..."
His voice was softer now.
Almost careful.
But she knew better.
She had heard that voice before.
The voice he used when he wanted to control her.
The voice he used before apologizing.
Before promising it would never happen again.
Before doing it again.
Emily looked at him.
"You want to know why I did this?"
Ryan said nothing.
She stepped forward.
"Because every person in this room thinks they know you."
Her voice trembled.
"But they don't."
Guests looked between them.
Confused.
Uncomfortable.
Shocked.
Margaret Ellis, the board member Emily had been speaking with earlier, slowly stood.
"Ryan..."
He turned toward her.
"What?"
Margaret's expression was different now.
Not admiration.
Not respect.
Disgust.
"I always wondered why Emily stopped attending events."
Ryan's face hardened.
"Don't interfere."
But Margaret didn't sit down.
"She didn't stop because she was busy."
"She stopped because she was scared."
The words hit the room like a wave.
Ryan laughed nervously.
"This is ridiculous."
He looked at the guests.
"She's emotional."
"She's trying to ruin my career."
Emily felt those familiar words.
The ones he always used.
The ones that made everyone doubt her.
But this time...
She wasn't alone.
A waiter stepped forward.
Quietly.
"Sir..."
Everyone looked at him.
He lowered his eyes.
"I saw her injuries before."
Ryan froze.
The room became even quieter.
The waiter continued.
"She told me she fell."
"But I didn't believe that."
Ryan's face changed.

Because one witness became two.
Then three.
People began remembering.
The times Emily wore long sleeves in summer.
The times she avoided photos.
The times she disappeared from events.
The truth was no longer invisible.
May you like
It was everywhere.
And Ryan couldn't control it anymore.
