Chapter 6 - THE BIRTHDAY INVOICE

Lorraine sent me an invoice.

Yes.

An invoice.

Four months after the birthday dinner.

It arrived by certified mail.

She claimed I owed her $6,400 for “emotional damages, ruined celebration costs, replacement food, emergency furniture rental, and reputational harm.”

Rebecca stared at it.

Then laughed so hard she removed her glasses.

“I’m sorry.”

“No, continue.”

“This is excellent.”

“She’s serious.”

“That makes it better.”

Lorraine had hired a general-practice attorney who apparently did not know what she was sending.

The invoice included:

$1,200 replacement dining rental.

$850 emergency catering.

$600 floral replacement.

$2,000 “lost social value.”

I pointed.

“What is lost social value?”

“I have no idea.”

Then Rebecca noticed something.

“Look.”

The replacement catering receipt.

Paid by Evan.

From Harbor North Consulting.

Two days after the birthday.

Interesting.

Why use Harbor North to pay personal catering?

Because Evan treated Harbor North like private money.

We added it to discovery.

Lorraine withdrew the demand within forty-eight hours.

I sent no response.
