Chapter 6 - WHAT HAPPENED TO REBECCA

Rebecca surprised everyone.
She testified.
Not against Mom out of revenge.
About what she witnessed.
The planning.
The argument.
The shove toward me.
The moment Mom released the blanket.
Her own role too.
She admitted blocking my path.
Admitted telling me I was selfish.
Admitted she enjoyed watching Mom put me “in my place.”
That part hurt.
Rebecca cried while saying it.
Still said it.
The prosecutor ultimately handled the charges based on evidence and applicable law.
I did not control the outcome.
Mom faced serious consequences, court supervision, and a no-contact order involving Lily.
The exact legal process lasted far longer than relatives expected.
No instant justice.
No satisfying gavel.
Just hearings.
Attorneys.
Statements.
Waiting.
Rebecca was not charged for what she admitted doing at the confrontation, but that did not restore our relationship.
She asked once:
“Do you think you’ll ever forgive me?”
I answered:
“Maybe.”
She cried.
Then nodded.

That response—accepting uncertainty without attacking me—was the first sign she might eventually become someone different.
