PART 2 — THE SECRET INSIDE HER PURSE

The ambulance arrived within minutes.

Red and blue lights flashed across the mansion walls while paramedics rushed Evelyn onto a stretcher.

Alexander never let go of his mother's hand.

Not once.

Blood stained the cuff of his white shirt.

He didn't care.

The doctors loaded Evelyn into the ambulance, and Alexander climbed inside beside her.

Behind him, Victoria stood frozen on the front steps.

No tears.

No apologies.

No concern.

Only fear.

Because she had seen the security footage.

And she had seen Alexander's face while watching it.

For five years, she had controlled him with charm, beauty, and carefully timed vulnerability.

For five years, she had convinced him that every argument with his mother was Evelyn's fault.

Every misunderstanding.

Every distance.

Every wound.

Now the illusion was cracking.

And Victoria knew it.

The ambulance doors slammed shut.

As it pulled away, Alexander looked through the rear window.

Victoria remained standing alone beneath the mansion lights.

For the first time...

He didn't feel protective.

He felt suspicious.

Mercy General Hospital

Three hours later.

Evelyn remained unconscious.

Multiple fractures.

A severe concussion.

Internal bleeding.

The doctors had stabilized her, but they couldn't promise anything else.

Alexander sat beside her hospital bed in silence.

The head of security, Daniel Ross, stood near the door holding a leather handbag.

Evelyn's purse.

The purse she had carried into the mansion.

The purse that had flown from her hand during the fall.

The purse Victoria had desperately tried to retrieve before security stopped her.

Alexander noticed it immediately.

"Why did Victoria want that bag?"

Daniel hesitated.

Then handed it over.

"I don't know, sir."

Alexander opened it.

Inside were the usual things.

Reading glasses.

Medication.

A small wallet.

Family photographs.

But beneath everything else...

A large sealed envelope.

His name was written across the front.

ALEXANDER.

In his mother's handwriting.

His chest tightened.

Slowly, he opened it.

Inside was a thick stack of documents.

The first page made his blood run cold.

PROPERTY TRANSFER AGREEMENT

Alexander frowned.

He turned the page.

Then another.

And another.

Every document involved Victoria.

Luxury apartments.

Investment accounts.

Trust structures.

Corporate shares.

Millions of dollars.

Assets quietly moved into companies connected to Victoria over the past three years.

Alexander stared in disbelief.

This couldn't be right.

He flipped through the paperwork faster.

The evidence was overwhelming.

Transaction records.

Bank statements.

Corporate filings.

Photographs.

Private investigator reports.

His mother had collected everything.

For years.

And she had never shown him.

At the bottom sat a handwritten note.

Alexander unfolded it carefully.

My son,

If you are reading this, then something has happened before I had the chance to tell you the truth.

I know you will be angry that I investigated Victoria.

I know you will think I interfered.

But I am your mother.

And mothers notice things other people ignore.

Victoria does not love you.

She loves what belongs to you.

Three years ago I hired an investigator.

I never wanted to be right.

But I was.

Please keep reading.

Love always,

Mom

Alexander's hands shook.

He turned to the next file.

The investigator's report.

The first photograph showed Victoria entering a private restaurant.

Nothing unusual.

The second photograph showed her meeting with a lawyer Alexander had never heard of.

The third made his stomach drop.

Victoria.

Kissing another man.

The photograph was dated fourteen months earlier.

Alexander stopped breathing.

"No..."

Daniel lowered his eyes.

There were dozens more.

Different dates.

Different meetings.

Different locations.

The same man.

The same affair.

The same betrayal.

For over a year.

Alexander sat motionless.

The room felt suddenly smaller.

Colder.

Everything he thought he knew was beginning to collapse.

Then he reached the final section of the file.

The investigator had highlighted it in red.

URGENT.

Alexander opened it.

Inside was a copy of a contract.

A secret contract.

Between Victoria...

And a private equity group.

The agreement outlined a future sale of controlling interests in Reed Industries.

His company.

His father's legacy.

His life's work.

Victoria had promised access.

Influence.

Control.

In exchange for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Alexander's vision blurred.

She hadn't just been stealing from him.

She hadn't just been cheating on him.

She had been preparing to destroy everything.

Everything.

Daniel finally spoke.

"There's more."

Alexander looked up.

The security chief's face was grim.

"What?"

Daniel swallowed.

"The investigator disappeared six months ago."

A chill ran through the room.

"What do you mean disappeared?"

"No contact. No records. No activity."

Alexander stared.

Daniel continued.

"The last person he met before vanishing was Victoria."

Silence.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

The hospital monitor beeped softly beside Evelyn's bed.

Alexander looked at his unconscious mother.

The woman he had spent years doubting.

The woman he had allowed others to insult.

The woman who had nearly died trying to protect him.

Slowly, he stood.

His expression had changed.

Daniel noticed immediately.

The grief was still there.

But something else had replaced the confusion.

Resolve.

Cold.

Precise.

Merciless.

"What are you going to do, sir?"

Alexander looked through the hospital window into the dark city beyond.

Then he spoke quietly.

"Victoria spent five years building her future."

Daniel nodded.

Alexander's eyes hardened.

"By tomorrow morning..."

He folded the evidence and slipped it back into the envelope.

"...she won't have one."

But neither man knew that Victoria had already realized the documents survived.

And at that exact moment...

Across the city...

She was meeting someone in a private underground parking garage.

Someone carrying a gun.

May you like

Someone with instructions to recover Evelyn's evidence...

Before sunrise.
