Chapter 3 - The Unmasking at the Plaza Gala

The Grand Ballroom at the Plaza Hotel was a glittering sea of tuxedoes, silk gowns, and high society power brokers. The annual Eastern Seaboard Maritime Gala was the most important corporate event of the year, bringing together politicians, billionaires, and industry leaders.
Adrienne Moretti walked through the double doors wearing a tailored charcoal suit. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and silver streaks now marked his dark hair. He looked like a man haunted by ghosts. Beside him, Vanessa Cole wore a crimson designer dress, her neck draped in diamonds, trying desperately to project an image of effortless wealth.
"We need this deal tonight, Adrienne," Vanessa whispered nervously, gripping his arm tightly. "If the board of Vance Global refuses to grant us the port access extension, the bank will freeze our commercial fleet by Monday."
"I know," Adrienne snapped quietly, pulling his arm away. "The new Chief Executive Officer of Vance Global is making a rare personal appearance tonight. I will secure the contract myself."
A hush suddenly washed over the ballroom as the brass chandelier lights dimmed slightly. The master of ceremonies stepped up to the crystal podium at the center of the stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the announcer spoke into the microphone, "please welcome the newly appointed Majority Owner and Chief Executive Officer of Vance Global Holdings... Mrs. Elena Vance."
The crowd erupted into polite applause as a breathtaking figure stepped out from behind the velvet curtains.
Adrienne’s heart stopped. The crystal glass of scotch in his hand slipped through his fingers, shattering loudly on the polished floorboards.
Elena stood on the stage, radiating an aura of supreme power and absolute elegance. She wore a striking emerald green silk gown that draped flawlessly over her tall, confident frame. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, and around her neck rested a simple, priceless sapphire necklace. Her eyes were calm, cold, and entirely devoid of fear.
Standing right beside the stage steps, wearing an immaculate black suit and an earpiece, was Thomas Reed.
Vanessa gasped, clutching her chest as her face turned completely white. "That... that is impossible. That is your wife!"
Elena stepped up to the microphone, her clear, melodious voice echoing through the silent ballroom.
"Good evening, distinguished guests," Elena began, her gaze sweeping across the crowd before locking directly onto Adrienne’s shocked, pale face. "Tonight, Vance Global is proud to announce the total acquisition and restructuring of several major commercial logistics firms across New York."

She paused, offering a smooth, icy smile that sent a shiver down Adrienne’s spine.
"Effective at midnight tonight, Vance Global has foreclosed on all outstanding debt held by Moretti Logistics. We have terminated their port access, seized their cargo vessels, and initiated a full corporate audit into their financial operations. The Moretti name is officially erased from the maritime industry."
