Chapter 4 - The Collapse of the Dynasty

Panic broke out across the grand ballroom. Journalists rushed forward, camera flashes exploding like lightning strikes as board members scrambled to discuss the shocking announcement.
Adrienne pushed through the crowd like a madman, shoving aside security guards and high society guests as he stormed toward the private VIP corridor behind the main stage.
"Elena!" he screamed, his voice raw with fury and disbelief. "Elena, stop!"
He turned the corner into the private holding room, only to be met by a wall of four towering security guards. Standing in front of them was Thomas Reed.
"Step aside, Thomas," Adrienne growled, his hands clenching into fists. "I am warning you."
"You are in no position to issue warnings, Mr. Moretti," Thomas replied calmly, his voice completely steady.
Elena stepped out from the private lounge, holding a glass of sparkling mineral water. She looked at her former husband with the detachment one might reserve for a complete stranger.
"Where is my son?" Adrienne demanded, his chest heaving as tears of anger and shock pricked his eyes. "Where is Nicholas? You had no right to take my boy from me!"
"I took my son away from a criminal who left his wife to suffer in labor while he celebrated with his mistress," Elena said, her voice dropping into a razor sharp whisper. "You proved you were unfit to be a father the moment you restricted the hospital funds while Nicholas was lying in a warming crib."
"I am his father!" Adrienne roared.
"You were a donor," Elena corrected him coldly. "Nicholas has a real life now. He grows up in fresh air, surrounded by people who protect him and love him. He will never know the violence, the lies, or the filth of your world."
Before Adrienne could take another step forward, heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway. Four federal agents in dark suits stepped into the corridor, led by a senior prosecutor from the United States Attorney General Office.
"Adrienne Moretti?" the lead agent asked, pulling a thick warrant from his jacket.
Adrienne froze. "What is this?"
"You are under arrest for federal tax evasion, wire fraud, and illegal racketeering," the prosecutor announced. "Two hours ago, an anonymous whistle blower provided federal prosecutors with thirty gigabytes of encrypted corporate ledgers detailing every money laundering transaction Moretti Logistics processed over the last five years."
Adrienne whirled around to look at Vanessa, who was running down the hallway toward the exit.
Two female federal officers intercepted Vanessa instantly, slamming her against the marble wall and snapping steel handcuffs around her wrists.
"Adrienne, help me!" Vanessa shrieked, her designer dress tearing as she struggled against the officers. "Tell them I had nothing to do with this!"
"Miss Cole is also being charged as an active co conspirator," the prosecutor added coldly.
Adrienne looked back at Elena. The reality of his complete destruction crashed over him like a tidal wave. His empire was gone. His reputation was ruined. His mistress was going to prison. And the brilliant, noble woman he had tossed aside like trash was standing above him, holding the keys to his entire world.
"Elena... please," Adrienne choked out, his arrogance completely shattered as the agents pulled his arms behind his back. "Just let me see him. Just once."

Elena looked down at him as the handcuffs clicked shut around his wrists.
"You had your chance three years ago, Adrienne," she said softly. "You chose the wrong room."
