Chapter 7 - The Company Peter Tried to Steal

Morgan Development survived Peter.
More importantly, it changed.
Daniel separated CEO and chairman responsibilities.
Created an independent board committee.
Rewrote trust governance so no single executive could gain control through temporary incapacity.
Grace insisted on one additional clause.
No household employee could ever hold fiduciary authority over Lily.
Daniel laughed when he read it.
Then signed.
Peter’s eight-percent stake was eventually sold under court-supervised restitution procedures.
Daniel had the option to buy it.
He did not.
Instead, employees purchased part through an ownership plan.
“Why?” Melissa asked.
“Because one person having too much control got us here.”
“You had too much control too.”
Daniel looked at her.
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“Growth.”
“Annoying.”
Lily’s trust remained secure.
Daniel told her about it when she turned ten.
Age appropriate.
“There’s money for your future.”
“How much?”
“Enough.”
“That means a lot.”
“Yes.”
“Can I buy a horse?”
“No.”
She frowned.
“Why does every rich family story end with no horse?”
Daniel laughed.
The trust would pay for education, healthcare, housing support.
Major unrestricted access came later.
Grace designed layers.
Daniel no longer believed love meant handing people power without structure.
Even people you trust deserve good systems.
Especially them.
Peter appealed.
Lost.
Vanessa eventually completed her sentence and entered supervised release.
Daniel received notice because of Lily.
He did not tell her immediately.
He consulted Dr. Chen first.
Then told Lily simply:
“Vanessa is no longer in prison.”
Lily became quiet.
“Can she come here?”
“No.”
“School?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“There are court rules.”
“Good.”
Daniel waited.
Lily whispered:
“Is she mad at me?”
His heart broke.
“No.”
“How do you know?”
“I don’t know what she feels.”
He touched her hand.
“But none of what happened was your fault.”
Lily nodded.
This time, she believed him faster.
May you like
That was progress.
