Chapter 4 - Absolute Justice In The Courtroom

The criminal trial took place six months later, and the courtroom felt like a theater designed specifically for their destruction. Bradley sat at the defense table, looking utterly defeated. He had lost twenty pounds, his expensive suits hung loosely on his frame, and the arrogant smirk he used to wear like a crown was entirely gone. He looked small. He looked pathetic.

When I took the witness stand, I did not cry. I wore a tailored crimson suit that commanded attention, and I spoke with absolute clarity. I recounted the years of emotional manipulation, the continuous disrespect from his family, and the sheer terror of that freezing April night.

The prosecution played the video on a massive screen for the jury. The cruel laughter of Bradley's family echoed loudly against the wooden walls of the courtroom. Several jurors physically recoiled in disgust. When the defense attorney tried to cross examine me, attempting to frame the incident as a misguided joke among spouses, my lawyer objected so fiercely the judge threatened the defense with contempt.

The final nail in the coffin came from Bradley's own blood. Trying to secure a plea deal to avoid jail time, Caleb and Derek both testified against him. They stood under oath and admitted that Bradley had specifically planned to humiliate me to gain his mother's approval. The betrayal in Bradley's eyes as he watched his cousins sell him out was almost poetic.

The jury deliberated for less than two hours. Guilty on all charges.

When the verdict was read, Barbara shrieked from the gallery, causing such a massive disturbance that the bailiffs physically dragged her out of the courtroom, adding a charge of disturbing the peace to her miserable life. The judge, staring down at Bradley with absolute contempt, sentenced him to eighteen months in a state facility, followed by three years of strict probation.

Two weeks later, our divorce was finalized. Because of his criminal conviction and my meticulous financial records, the judge awarded me the condo, my business assets, and a significant portion of his remaining retirement funds as restitution. Bradley walked out of that courthouse with nothing but a duffel bag and a criminal record, completely erased from my world.
