Chapter 5 - THE FRAUD REPORT

I eventually filed the police report.

Not because I wanted Jenna arrested.

Because the lenders needed formal documentation and because pretending forged signatures were a “family problem” would leave me carrying risk I did not create.

What happened afterward was not cinematic.

No squad cars.

No handcuffs at breakfast.

Investigators requested documents.

Lenders reviewed applications.

The property manager preserved the lease.

Horizon Auto provided electronic records.

IP addresses.

Submission timestamps.

Contact information.

Some pointed to Jenna.

Some to Rick.

Some remained unclear.

I did not investigate personally.

That mattered.

Boundaries include knowing which work belongs to professionals.

Jenna’s attorney eventually contacted mine.

She wanted restitution discussions.

Good.

That sounded more useful than thirty-seven angry texts.

The fraudulent guarantor obligations were disputed and removed from my responsibility where institutions accepted the evidence.

Credit reporting required cleanup.

That took months.

Not one phone call.

Months.

Every time another letter arrived, I felt the old anger return.

Then I looked at Oliver.

And remembered why I was doing it.

Not revenge.

Accuracy.

My financial life needed to reflect my choices.

May you like

Not Jenna’s.
