Chapter 3 - TRAVIS KNEW THE RULES
Blue Lantern suspended Travis immediately.
The restaurant group announced an internal investigation.
That sounded impressive until my attorney, Celeste Morgan, began reviewing what management already knew about Tyler Baines.
Complaints.
Not mine.
Others.
Two servers had reported inappropriate touching.
One bartender documented Tyler following her into an employee hallway six months earlier.
Another employee complained that Grant threw cash on the floor and made her pick it up.
What happened?
Nothing meaningful.
Why?
Tyler’s father, Richard Baines, held a minority investment position in the restaurant’s development partnership.
Not operational control.
Enough influence to make weak managers afraid.
Travis had been one of them.
Celeste asked:
“Do you understand the difference between being afraid of losing a job and helping create unsafe conditions?”
“Yes.”
“So does Travis.”
That was important.
I did not need him turned into a cartoon villain.
Cowardice had consequences all by itself.
He knew the hallway restriction existed.
He knew Tyler wanted access to me.
He provided the information.
Then he acted surprised when something happened.
At his formal interview, he admitted:
“I knew Maya had complained about them earlier.”
That was worse.
He had not merely failed to see danger.
