Olivia told people I cheated.
Of course.
According to her version, I had become obsessed with Sophie before the wedding.

Some friends believed her.
I let them.
People who require a press conference before offering you basic trust are exhausting.
Then Natalie stopped protecting her sister.
Not because she loved me.
Because financial exposure had consequences.
Natalie returned funds tied to inflated invoices through a negotiated settlement.
She provided records.
Olivia eventually repaid additional amounts and resolved claims surrounding the wedding finances.
I did not become richer through revenge.
I mostly became less financially entangled.
Good enough.
More importantly, Daniel formally corrected Sophie’s employment file.
Every false performance note was preserved as disputed and unsupported.
Her actual work record remained strong.
When the nursing school called for employment verification, she received the truth.
That mattered more to me than whatever gossip Olivia spread.
Reputation with strangers fades.
A false accusation in a working woman’s personnel history can follow her for years.
