Chapter 5 - Whispers at Moretti Plaza

Victor Moretti froze on the middle step. His eyes darted nervously from Dominic to me, a flicker of raw panic passing across his features before he forced a chuckling mask over his face.

"Sister?" Victor laughed nervously. "Dominic, what kind of joke is this? Who is this woman? A disgruntled former employee?"

Dominic reached into his inner pocket and pulled out a high-resolution color copy of the notarized trust document. He didn't hand it to Victor; he simply held it up in front of the older man's face.

"This is my father's signature, Victor," Dominic said, his voice as cold as winter iron. "Witnessed, notarized, and sealed three years ago."

Victor's mouth twitched. He tried to speak, but no words came out.

"You knew about Anna for eight years," Dominic continued, taking a step closer, forcing his uncle to back up a step. "You kept her working in the lower tiers of the logistics department. You intercepted her letters to my father. And when she discovered the inventory discrepancies in the south warehouse, you had Gary Vance fabricate a termination order."

"Dominic, listen to me!" Victor stammered, raising his hands defensively. "Your father was sick when he signed that! He wasn't in his right mind! That woman is the daughter of a common seamstress from Palermo! Giving her thirty-five percent of our holding company will destroy our standing with the board!"

"My father was sharper than you ever were," Dominic replied flatly. "And Anna isn't just taking her thirty-five percent. As of 3:00 PM today, I have appointed her Chief Logistics Officer for the entire Moretti Group."

Victor’s face flushed a deep, ugly red. "You can't do that without a full board vote!"

"I own thirty-five percent. Anna owns thirty-five percent. That is seventy percent of the total voting power," Dominic reminded him coldly. "The board doesn't get a say. You are stripped of your management duties effective immediately, Victor. Hand over your security pass and your office keys."

Victor stared at his nephew, his eyes burning with pure malice. He looked past Dominic, directing a venomous glare straight at me and Lily, who was holding tightly onto my hand.

"You think you've won, little girl?" Victor spat at me under his breath. "You have no idea what is coming out of those south warehouses tonight."

He shoved past Dominic's security guards and stormed down the driveway toward his car.

Dominic turned back to me, his dark eyes filled with quiet determination. "He's going to try to clear out the evidence before sunrise. We need to go to the south warehouse complex tonight."
