Chapter 6 - The Warehouse Ambush

At 11:30 PM, the industrial district along the Brooklyn waterfront was wrapped in a thick, sulfurous river fog.

The south warehouse complex—a massive, windowless brick facility owned by Moretti Logistics—stood silent against the dark water.

I sat in the passenger seat of Dominic's SUV, reviewing inventory spreadsheets on a tablet computer while Marco and four tactical guards secured the perimeter.

"Look at these shipping codes, Dominic," I pointed to the screen, tracing a series of flagged container numbers. "For the past eighteen months, four high-value container shipments arrived from Rotterdam every Tuesday. They bypassed standard customs logs because Victor flagged them as 'internal machinery transfers.'"

Dominic leaned over, his shoulder pressing lightly against mine as he looked at the data. "What was inside those containers?"

"Undeclared luxury assets and untaxed bonds," I explained, using my years of logistics experience. "Victor was using our logistics network to clean money for rival crime syndicates in New Jersey. That's why he fired me—I flagged container #408 this morning because the weight didn't match the manifest."

Suddenly, the side door of the warehouse swung open. Three men wearing dark tactical gear began hurriedly loading metal shipping crates into the back of an unmarked semi-truck.

"He's moving the evidence," Dominic said grimly.

He unclipped his seatbelt and pulled a sleek black sidearm from his shoulder holster. "Stay in the car with Marco, Anna."

"No," I insisted, grabbing his sleeve. "I know the layout of that warehouse better than anyone. The master server cabinet is located in the basement office behind the loading bay. If Victor's men purge the main drive, we lose the digital paper trail that links him to the Jersey syndicates."

Dominic looked at me, his dark eyes reflecting the dim streetlights outside. He saw no fear in my face—only the fierce determination of a mother fighting for her family's future.

"Stay right behind me," Dominic commanded softly.

We moved through the foggy alleyway like shadows. Dominic moved with lethal grace, his guards neutralizing the two lookouts near the loading bay with silent efficiency before they could sound an alarm.

We slipped through the side entrance into the vast, cavernous warehouse. High stacks of wooden crates towered into the darkness above.

We reached the basement office door. I quickly entered the master keycode into the digital pad—a code I had memorized during my years as a logistics manager.

The lock clicked green.

We stepped inside, but as I reached for the server terminal, a heavy iron gate slammed down behind us, locking us inside the room.

From the observation window above, Victor Moretti leaned over the railing, a cruel, triumphant smile plastered across his face.

"Did you really think it would be this easy, Dominic?" Victor's voice echoed through the intercom speaker. "You brought your precious new sister right into my trap."
