Chapter 5 - AMY HAD BEEN SIGNING “HOUSEHOLD FORMS”
Amy broke down when she heard.
“I signed things.”
My stomach dropped.
“What things?”
“I don’t know.”
Teresa sometimes handed her forms and said:
“Connor needs these.”
Insurance updates.
Utility authorizations.
School waitlist documents for later.
At least that was how she described them.
Amy had signed some because she trusted me.
That crushed me.
“Did she say I asked you to?”
“Yes.”
“How many?”
“Maybe four or five.”
Rachel did not panic.
She asked for copies.
Most were harmless.
One wasn’t.
A limited authorization form involving household administration.
It had been altered after Amy signed.
Lines had been added.
Not enough to transfer the house by itself.
Enough to show a pattern of trying to expand authority after obtaining a signature.
That document became important.
So did the fact Amy had never signed the draft quitclaim deed.
No magical theft had been completed.
