Chapter 9 - THE HOUSE STAYED OURS

The investigation and civil disputes took time.
Teresa faced consequences for conduct supported by evidence.
Mason faced scrutiny for his role with the documents and attempted financial arrangements.
I did not spend every day following the case.
I had more important things to rebuild.
The house never transferred.
The title remained with Amy and me.
We changed locks.
Passwords.
Banking access.
Safe combination.
Emergency contacts.
Teresa’s monthly transfers stopped immediately.
The first month I did not send her $3,000, I moved the same amount into three places.
Frederick’s education savings.
Our emergency fund.
Amy’s personal retirement account.
Not because spouses need secret lives.
Because Amy deserved assets in her own name too.
We also hired a cleaner twice a month.
The first time she came, Amy almost cried.
Not because the house became clean.
