Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Execution

The emergency board meeting was called for two o'clock on Thursday afternoon.

Daniel had spent forty-eight hours frantically trying to reach me, calling my phone, emailing my secure accounts, and banging on the doors of the guest house. I had ignored him entirely.

When I walked into the glass-walled executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense. Richard Vance sat at the center of the table, flanked by the company’s senior legal counsel and five major shareholders. Daniel sat at the head of the table, looking like a man walking to the gallows.

"Valentina," Daniel started, standing up and trying to project authority. "You do not have a seat on this executive board. I must ask you to leave."

"Sit down, Daniel," Richard Vance barked. The billionaire did not even look at my husband. He looked at me. "Valentina sent me an encrypted file yesterday. I requested her presence."

Daniel sank into his leather chair, the fight completely leaving his body.

I walked to the front of the room and connected my tablet to the massive projector screen.

"Gentlemen," I began, my voice echoing clearly in the silent room. "Meridian Automation Systems is currently bleeding capital. Over the past four years, our CEO has systematically embezzled twelve point four million dollars of investor funds."

Gasps rippled through the boardroom. The lawyers frantically opened their laptops.

I tapped the screen, projecting a dense, undeniable web of financial transfers, wire receipts, and offshore routing numbers. "The funds were routed through dummy corporations, masked as logistical expenses. But they didn't go to vendors. They went to luxury real estate, private jets, and offshore crypto wallets controlled entirely by Daniel Morales."

"This is a lie!" Daniel shouted, slamming his fist on the table, trying one last, desperate gambit. "It was Clare! Clare Bennett had access to those accounts! She formed the LLCs! She stole the money, and she’s trying to frame me!"

"I thought you might say that," I smiled.

I tapped the screen again. An audio file began to play. It was a recording I had taken at Clare’s house, of Clare reading her sworn affidavit, detailing exactly how Daniel had manipulated the internal accounting software to bypass dual-authorization limits, providing specific dates and passwords that only the CEO possessed.

"Furthermore," I continued, speaking over Daniel's stunned silence, "I have already secured the remaining seven million dollars in those shell accounts and placed them in an escrow trust to be returned to the company treasury. The other five million was spent on personal assets."

Richard Vance stood up, his face a mask of absolute, terrifying fury. He looked at Daniel. "You stole from me. You stole from this board. You compromised a billion-dollar public offering for a mistress."

"Richard, please, I can fix this," Daniel begged, tears streaming down his face.

"You can't," a new voice interrupted.

The heavy glass doors of the boardroom swung open. Two federal agents in dark suits walked in, flashing gold badges. I had sent the decrypted files to the FBI white-collar division the night before.

"Daniel Morales," the lead agent said, stepping forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit extortion. Stand up and place your hands behind your back."

Daniel looked at me, his eyes wide with disbelief, horror, and profound regret. "Valentina... you’re my wife."

May you like

"I was your partner," I corrected him, looking down at the man who had ruined our life. "You decided to make me your enemy."

I watched with cold, absolute satisfaction as they locked the handcuffs around his wrists and dragged him out of the boardroom, his legacy destroyed in front of the very people he had tried to impress.
