Chapter 6 - I HAD BUILT THE COMPANY TOO
MRC Land Development was legally Mark’s business.
But emotionally?
That company had cost me years.
When Mark started it, I worked full-time and paid most household expenses.
I hosted clients.
Edited proposals.
Managed books before he could afford staff.
Used my inheritance from my father to cover payroll during one terrible year.
Then Mark became successful.
We started calling it “his company.”
I stopped thinking about what I had put into it.
Mark apparently did too.
Except when he needed my credit.
Or my signature.
Or my money.
Rebecca asked:
“Do you still have documentation of your father’s inheritance?”
“Yes.”
That mattered.
So did old emails.
Transfers.
Investment records.
The story Mark had been telling himself—that everything belonged to him because his name was on the office door—started colliding with documents.
Documents are terribly impolite things.
