PART 7 — THE WOMAN BEHIND OPERATION VALERIA

PART 7 — THE WOMAN BEHIND OPERATION VALERIA
The words on the screen burned into my mind.
The child will be born. The mother will disappear.
I stared at those words until they stopped looking like letters.
Until they became something else.
A sentence.
A threat.
A death sentence written years ago.
For me.
Not my baby.
Me.
Nobody spoke.
Because everyone understood what that meant.
Someone had planned my entire life.
My marriage.
My pregnancy.
My isolation.
Everything.
I wasn't just caught in someone else's war.
I was the reason for it.
The target.
The final piece.
My father slowly walked toward the laptop.
His face was pale.
"Let me see that."
Elena moved the screen toward him.
He read every line.
His hands started shaking.
And I had never seen my father shake.
Not once.
Not when he lost millions.
Not when enemies attacked his companies.
Not when people threatened him.
But now...
A file with my name broke him.
"What is Operation Valeria?"
My voice was quiet.
But everyone heard.
My father looked at me.
"I don't know."
I laughed.
Not because it was funny.
Because it hurt.
"You don't know?"
A tear fell.
"The whole world thinks you're untouchable."
"The most powerful businessman in the country."
"But someone created a plan using your daughter..."
A pause.
"And you don't know?"
He lowered his eyes.
That answer was worse than words.
My mother stepped forward.
"Ricardo."
He looked at her.
"You knew something."
My father stayed silent.
My mother shook her head.
"I spent fifteen years hiding to protect her."
Her voice broke.
"And you still haven't told her everything."
My father's face changed.
Because she was right.
Again.
"Tell me."
I looked at him.
"No more secrets."
My father closed his eyes.
Then he finally said:
"When you were born..."
A pause.
"There was an agreement."
My stomach tightened.
Another agreement.
Another contract.
Another part of my life I never chose.
"Between who?"
He looked at me.
"The Salazar family."
A pause.
"And the Rivas family."
I looked at Santiago.
He looked just as shocked.
"Your grandfather created it."
My father continued.
"He believed our families needed to merge power."
I shook my head.
"So he used me."
"No."
My father immediately answered.
But he stopped.
Because he knew.
Maybe he did.
"He believed your marriage would protect both families."
My father continued.
"He believed bringing you and Santiago together would prevent a corporate war."
I looked at Santiago.
"And you agreed?"
He looked away.
That hurt.
Because silence was another confession.
Santiago finally spoke.
"I didn't know the whole plan."
Everyone looked at him.
"I swear."
I stared.
"You married me for business."
His face tightened.
"At first."
The words hurt.
Even though I already knew.
"At first?"
He nodded slowly.
"I met you because of the agreement."
A pause.
"But I stayed because I loved you."
I almost laughed.
Because love sounded impossible coming from him.
"Then why did you hurt me?"
His face changed.
Shame.
"I became like them."
That answer surprised me.
"I thought power was everything."
A pause.
"And when I felt you slipping away..."
He looked down.
"I became afraid."
My father looked at him with disgust.
But I saw something else.
A reflection.
Because powerful men had spent years making decisions for everyone around them.
And I was the person they all claimed to protect.
While destroying me.
Then Elena interrupted.
"There's something else."
Everyone turned.
She was scrolling through the file.
"The operation wasn't created recently."
She looked at me.
"It started fifteen years ago."
My blood ran cold.
Before I met Santiago.
Before I married.
Before I even understood the world.
"Who created it?"
She hesitated.
Then opened another page.
The original author.
Everyone stared.
Because the name belonged to someone unexpected.
Lucia Salazar.
My mother.
The room froze.
I looked at my mother.
She looked devastated.
"No."
My voice broke.
"No, that's not possible."
My mother stepped closer.
"Valeria..."
"Did you create this?"
Her eyes filled with tears.
"No."
"Then why is your name there?"
She couldn't answer.
And I felt something inside me collapse.
Beatriz suddenly laughed.
Everyone looked at her.
A cold smile appeared on her face.
"Finally."
My father turned.
"What did you do?"
She smiled.
"I didn't do anything."
A pause.
"I just waited."
My mother stared at her.
"You."
Beatriz shrugged.
"Your daughter was always going to discover the truth."
My father stepped forward.
"Explain."
Beatriz looked at me.
"Your mother didn't create Operation Valeria."
A pause.
"She tried to stop it."
Everyone froze.
My mother closed her eyes.
Because it was true.
"Then who changed the file?"
My father demanded.
Nobody answered.
Then a sound came from the hallway.
Footsteps.
Slow.
Confident.
Someone entered the mansion.
Everyone turned.
A man walked inside.
Older.
Elegant.
Familiar.
My father's face turned white.
"No."
My mother whispered:
"You."
The man smiled.
"Hello, Lucia."
My father looked like he had seen a ghost.
Because the man standing there...
Was supposed to be dead.
My grandfather.
The founder of the Salazar empire.
The man buried fifteen years ago.
The man whose death changed everything.
Alive.
Standing in front of us.
He looked at me.
Then smiled.
"My granddaughter."
I stepped back.
"No."
He tilted his head.
"You look just like your mother."
My father moved in front of me.
"You died."
The old man laughed softly.
"I needed everyone to believe that."
My mother stared.
"Why?"
His smile disappeared.
"Because I was building something bigger."
He looked at me.
"Something that required my granddaughter."
My blood turned cold.
"What?"
He stepped closer.
"The next generation."
A pause.
"The child you are carrying."
My hand moved over my belly.
Protecting my son.
He smiled.
"That baby belongs to the future I created."
May you like
And my father whispered the words that terrified me most:
"He's the architect of everything."
