PART 8 — THE GRANDFATHER’S FINAL GAME

PART 8 — THE GRANDFATHER’S FINAL GAME
The man standing in front of me was impossible.
A ghost.
A memory.
A person everyone had buried fifteen years ago.
My grandfather.
The founder of the Salazar empire.
The man whose name appeared in every business newspaper.
The man whose decisions shaped entire industries.
The man who had supposedly died before I became an adult.
Yet here he was.
Standing inside the old estate.
Looking at me like I was not his granddaughter.
But an investment.
My father stepped forward.
His voice was shaking.
Not from fear.
From rage.
"You let us mourn you."
My grandfather looked at him calmly.
"I had to."
"Had to?"
My father laughed bitterly.
"You destroyed your own family."
My grandfather's expression didn't change.
"No."
A pause.
"I protected it."
I stared at him.
"Protected?"
The word came out cold.
"You disappeared."
"You watched my mother suffer."
"You watched me grow up believing she abandoned me."
"And you call that protection?"
For the first time...
His expression changed.
Only slightly.
But I saw it.
He didn't understand.
He truly didn't understand.
Because in his mind, everything he did was justified.
"You were always emotional, Valeria."
My blood went cold.
He continued:
"That was your weakness."
My mother immediately stepped forward.
"Don't speak to her like that."
My grandfather looked at her.
"You were always the problem, Lucia."
My mother's face hardened.
"I tried to stop you."
"And failed."
The words hit.
Because I realized something.
My mother didn't disappear from my life.
She ran from him.
"What did you do to her?"
I asked.
My grandfather looked at me.
"Your mother discovered the plan."
"What plan?"
He smiled.
"The same one you're holding."
He pointed at the laptop.
"Operation Valeria."
My hands tightened.
"You created it."
He nodded.
"Yes."
No hesitation.
No shame.
He admitted it.
Like he was announcing a business strategy.
"Why?"
My voice cracked.
"Why would you create a plan about your own granddaughter?"
He walked closer.
"Because families survive through power."
A pause.
"Love disappears."
"Money disappears."
"People disappear."
"But influence..."
He smiled.
"Influence lasts forever."
I looked at him.
A stranger wearing my grandfather's face.
"That's what you think?"
He looked surprised.
"Isn't it true?"
"No."
My voice became stronger.
"It's what broken people believe when they don't know how to love."
The room went silent.
Even my father looked surprised.
Because I had never spoken to my grandfather like that.
Nobody had.
His expression darkened.
"You sound like your mother."
"Good."
I answered.
"She was the only person who protected me."
My grandfather looked at my mother.
A strange sadness crossed his face.
"You never understood what I was trying to build."
My mother shook her head.
"No."
A pause.
"I understood."
She looked at me.
"And that's why I ran."
Santiago stepped forward.
Everyone turned.
My grandfather looked at him.
"You."
Santiago froze.
"You were the one chosen."
Santiago's jaw tightened.
"I was used."
My grandfather smiled.
"Everyone is used."
That sentence explained everything.
The way he saw the world.
People were tools.
Relationships were transactions.
Children were assets.
Santiago looked at me.
And for the first time, I saw something real.
Regret.
"I hurt you because I believed this world."
He swallowed.
"I believed powerful people never lose."
A pause.
"But I was wrong."
My grandfather laughed softly.
"You're weak."
Santiago looked at him.
"No."
A pause.
"I'm finally human."
Then my grandfather pulled a small device from his coat.
Security immediately raised weapons.
But he smiled.
"Relax."
He pressed one button.
The entire mansion's security system changed.
The doors locked.
The windows sealed.
Everyone froze.
My father's face changed.
"What did you do?"
My grandfather looked at him.
"I took control."
Elena checked her laptop.
Her face went pale.
"He accessed the system."
My father stepped forward.
"You hacked a private network?"
My grandfather smiled.
"I created it."
The lights dimmed.
Then the screens around the room turned on.
One by one.
Showing documents.
Photos.
Recordings.
My entire life.
My first day of school.
My graduation.
My wedding.
My pregnancy.
Everything.
Watched.
Recorded.
Controlled.
I felt sick.
"How long?"
My voice barely came out.
My grandfather answered:
"Your whole life."
My mother covered her mouth.
My father looked destroyed.
And Santiago whispered:
"She was never free."
Those words hurt most.
Because they were true.
My grandfather walked toward the screen.
"Valeria."
I looked at him.
"You have spent your life believing you were weak."
A pause.
"Because everyone told you who you were."
He smiled.
"But now..."
The screen changed.
A document appeared.
SUCCESSOR TRANSFER AGREEMENT
My name.
My signature.
My inheritance.
Everything.
"What is that?"
My grandfather looked proud.
"The future."
I shook my head.
"No."
He smiled.
"You don't understand."
He pointed at my stomach.
"Your son will inherit everything."
A pause.
"But only if you sign."
My father immediately stepped forward.
"Don't."
My grandfather ignored him.
"The Salazar empire."
"The Rivas empire."
"Everything combined."
A pause.
"The largest business power this country has ever seen."
I stared at the document.
Then at him.
"You want my baby to become like you."
"No."
He smiled.
"I want him to become unstoppable."
My hands moved protectively over my belly.
"No."
The word surprised everyone.
My grandfather tilted his head.
"No?"
I looked at him.
"My son will never be your legacy."
A pause.
"He will be his own person."
For the first time...
My grandfather looked angry.
Really angry.
"You don't understand what you are refusing."
I stepped forward.
"Yes, I do."
A tear fell.
"I'm refusing a life where people are owned."
"I'm refusing a family where love is a contract."
"I'm refusing to become you."
The room went silent.
Then my grandfather smiled.
But this smile was different.
Cold.
Dangerous.
"Very well."
He looked at the security system.
"Then we proceed to the final stage."
My father frowned.
"What final stage?"
My grandfather looked at me.
"The birth."
My heart stopped.
"What?"
He pressed another button.
A countdown appeared on the screen.
48 HOURS REMAINING
Everyone froze.
My grandfather's voice filled the room.
"When the baby is born..."
A pause.
"The transfer begins."
My mother whispered:
"No."
My grandfather smiled.
"And if you refuse..."
He looked directly at me.
"The consequences will be permanent."
The screen changed.
Showing one final file.
VALERIA SALAZAR — TERMINATION PROTOCOL
Nobody breathed.
Because everyone understood.
The plan was never just to control me.
May you like
It was to remove me.
Forever.
