Daniel eventually gave a recorded statement through counsel.
He stopped claiming I fell.
The evidence made that impossible.
Instead, he minimized.
He said he had been angry.
He said I had “provoked” him by discussing leaving.
He said the suspension was not intended to cause serious harm.
He said he wanted to “teach me how serious family expectations were.”
Then came the sentence:
“She was my wife.”
As if that reduced the offense.
It did the opposite.
My attorney, Rebecca Shaw, looked at me after reading the transcript.
“You okay?”

“No.”
She nodded.
