Chapter 3 - The Syndicate Ambush

Chaos erupted on the deserted highway. Bullets rained down on the heavily armored vehicle, striking the reinforced steel with terrifying metallic thuds. Alex reacted with lethal precision, his paternal instincts completely taking over his ruthless mafia training. He threw his massive body over Nora and Nanya, crushing them down into the floorboards to shield them from the assault.
"Stay down!" Alex roared over the deafening gunfire. He pulled a heavy firearm from his shoulder holster, his eyes burning with a murderous rage that terrified Nora more than the attackers outside.
"Are we playing an action movie?" Nanya asked from beneath her mother, sounding more curious than afraid.
"Something like that, sweetheart," Alex said, his voice surprisingly gentle as he looked down at his daughter. "But I promise you, nobody is going to hurt you. I will not let them."
His top security detail, traveling in the escort vehicles, immediately engaged the attackers. The sound of high caliber weapons returning fire echoed through the night. Alex did not wait for his men to finish the job. He kicked open the heavy door of the SUV, stepping out into the line of fire with the absolute fearlessness of a man who had nothing left to lose and everything to protect.
Nora watched in absolute horror and awe as the man she had feared for nine years became a human shield for her family. He moved with terrifying efficiency, neutralizing the threats with cold, calculated precision. Within minutes, the ambush was entirely dismantled. The street grew eerily silent, save for the hiss of smoking engines and the groans of the defeated syndicate members.
Alex climbed back into the SUV, his suit torn and smelling faintly of gunpowder, but completely unharmed. He looked at Nora, his chest heaving, his blue eyes intense and full of an unspoken promise.

"Drive," Alex commanded his surviving driver. "Get us to the main compound. Now."
As the ruined vehicle limped away from the carnage, Nora realized the terrifying truth. She could never hide from this world. Her daughter carried the blood of the most powerful mafia boss in America. But looking at Alex, seeing the fierce, unyielding protection in his eyes as he gently wiped a smudge of dirt from Nanya's cheek, Nora also realized something else. She had spent nine years running from the only man capable of keeping them truly safe.
