Chapter 10 - The Light We Reclaimed

Six months later.

The Tuscan countryside stretched out in rolling green hills, vineyards, and ancient olive groves under a brilliant golden sky.

Our stone villa near Siena was bathed in warm afternoon sunlight.

There were no bodyguards hiding in the shadows here. No illegal cargo shipments. No weapons hidden in desktop drawers.

I had completely dismantled the Moretti syndicate, turning its assets over to legitimate agricultural cooperatives and global medical research foundations that specialized in pediatric neurological recovery.

I was no longer a mafia boss.

I was a free man.

On the terrace overlooking the valley, four-year-old Lily was running through the grass, chasing a white puppy, her bright laughter filling the warm air.

Elena walked out from the kitchen carrying two glasses of fresh lemonade.

She wore a simple yellow sun dress, her dark hair falling softly over her shoulders. She looked younger, lighter, and completely peaceful.

I walked up behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist, pulling her back against my chest as we watched our daughter play.

"What are you thinking about?" Elena asked softly, leaning her head against my shoulder.

"I'm thinking about Central Park," I murmured, kissing the side of her neck. "About the moment a tiny hand touched my forehead and told me my eyes were just sleeping."

Elena smiled, turning in my arms to look up into my eyes—the eyes that now saw everything clearly, without pain, without darkness.

"She knew," Elena whispered. "Even when I had lost all hope, Lily always believed you would find us."

Lily ran up the terrace steps, her small hands holding a bouquet of yellow wildflowers she had picked from the garden.

"Look, Daddy!" she cheered, holding them up to me. "I picked these for you!"

I dropped to one knee, taking the flowers from my daughter, pulling her and Elena into a tight, warm embrace.

The Tuscan sun shone brightly above us, casting long, golden light across the hills, marking the absolute end of our dark winter and the beginning of a beautiful, endless spring.
