Chapter 6 - The Miraculous Darkness

To ensure complete surprise, I continued to play the blind man.
I put on dark sunglasses, picked up my white cane, and allowed Mateo to guide me back to my grand estate in the hills.
Isabella met us at the front entrance, wearing a cream designer dress, a triumphant smile plastered across her face.
"Dominic!" she gushed, rushing forward to take my arm. "Where have you been? I was out of my mind with worry! You missed three catering appointments!"
"I needed quiet, Isabella," I said in my raspy, low voice, letting her lead me toward the study. "The little girl in the park... she disturbed me."
I felt her arm stiffen slightly beneath my grip, though her voice remained sweet.
"I told you, darling, she was just a street beggar trying to scam money. I had my security detail handle her mother. You don't need to think about them ever again."
Handle her mother.
I felt a sudden, dangerous pulse in my temple, but I kept my face utterly blank.
"Good," I murmured. "I only want to focus on our wedding."
"Marcus has finalized all the security protocols for the cathedral," Isabella said, leading me to my desk. "And he prepared these final asset transfer forms for your signature. Just routine shipping authorizations before the ceremony."
She placed a thick stack of paper before me, slipping a golden pen into my hand.
Because she believed I was blind, she didn't realize I was reading every single word on the page.
It was a full transfer of the Moretti fleet to a shell corporation registered under Marcus's name in Panama.
Had I been blind, I would have signed away my entire life's work in five seconds.
Instead, I raised the pen, hesitated, and deliberately spilled my inkwell across the parchment.
"Oh, basic awkwardness," I apologized, holding my hands up. "Forgive me, Isabella. My hands are shaking today."

Isabella sighed, an annoyance slipping into her tone before she caught herself. "It's alright, Dominic. I'll have Marcus print fresh copies for tomorrow."
"Yes," I said, leaning back in my chair, staring directly into her blue eyes behind my dark glasses. "Tomorrow will be a very busy day."
