Chapter 7 - The Trap Sprung

Six months later.
Spring had arrived in New York, painting Central Park in vibrant shades of green and gold.
The penthouse was alive with light and laughter.
Seven-month-old Clara and Ellie were crawling across the thick sheepskin rug in the living room, giggling wildly as they played with a set of wooden building blocks. They were healthy, happy, and growing rapidly, their chubby cheeks rosy with health.
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, sipping a warm cup of tea, watching my daughters play.
Elias walked into the room, wearing a casual dark sweater, shedding the cold corporate persona he wore for the outside world. He walked straight over to me, wrapping his arms gently around my waist from behind and resting his chin softly on my shoulder.
"What are you thinking about?" Elias whispered, his breath warm against my neck.
"I was thinking about the night you found us under the overpass," I admitted softly, turning in his arms to look up into his handsome face. "I was so close to giving up, Elias. I thought the world was completely dark."
"And now?" he asked, his dark eyes searching mine with immense tenderness.
"Now... I have everything I ever dreamed of," I smiled, reaching up to gently trace his strong jawline with my thumb. "You gave us a home, Elias. A real home."
Elias looked down at me, his eyes filled with an emotion so deep and raw it made my breath catch in my throat.
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box, and opened it.
Inside rested a breathtaking platinum ring, featuring a rare cushion-cut blue diamond that shimmered like the sea under the warm sunlight.
My hands flew to my mouth, tears instantly welling in my eyes.
"Ava," Elias spoke, his voice deep, steady, and filled with absolute sincerity. "From the moment I carried you and the girls into my car that freezing night, my life changed forever. You brought warmth, light, and true purpose into my world."
He dropped to one knee on the rug right beside our playing daughters. Clara and Ellie stopped babbling, looking up at him with wide, curious brown eyes.
"Ava Miller, will you marry me? Will you let me love you, protect you, and be a father to our daughters for the rest of my life?"
Tears of pure, overwhelming joy spilled down my cheeks. I dropped to my knees beside him, wrapping my arms around his neck, pulling him into a passionate, loving kiss.

"Yes, Elias!" I sobbed happily against his lips. "Yes! A thousand times yes!"
Elias pulled me close, holding me tight against his chest as our daughters babbled happily, clapping their tiny hands as if understanding that our family was finally complete.
