Chapter 10 - The Fall of the House of Vance

The emergency shareholder meeting was held the next morning in the glass-walled penthouse of the Rossi corporate tower. The atmosphere was incredibly grim. Victoria sat at the end of the long mahogany table alongside her father, Richard Vance, and a team of vicious lawyers. They looked like vultures ready to pick the bones of the company clean. Dominic sat at the head of the table, projecting an aura of total calm. I sat directly to his right, wearing a sharp, tailored white power suit.
"Let's make this quick, Dominic," Richard Vance said, his voice grating and arrogant. "The company is insolvent. You can't make the tariff payments. My daughter is your legal wife, entitling us to half the voting shares. I am prepared to offer a buyout of your remaining half at twenty cents on the dollar. Sign the papers, or we force you into bankruptcy by Friday."
Victoria smirked, applying a fresh coat of red lipstick. "It's over, Dominic. You should have just let me take my rightful place. Now you lose everything."
Dominic didn't say a word. He looked at me and nodded.
I opened the sleek laptop in front of me and connected it to the massive projector screen on the wall behind Dominic.
"Actually, Richard," I said, my voice echoing clearly in the silent boardroom. "The Rossi corporation's finances are perfectly secure. We received an anonymous cash injection of three hundred million dollars this morning from a private trust."
Victoria scoffed. "Impossible. No bank would lend to you under this injunction."
"It wasn't a bank," I smiled. "It was the Rossi Family Trust, authorized by the sole trustee: Carmela Rossi, who was deemed completely mentally competent by a federal medical board yesterday afternoon."
Richard Vance’s smug expression faltered. But I wasn't done.
"As for your claim to the company, Victoria," I continued, tapping a key on the laptop. An audio file began to play over the boardroom speakers. It was a recorded phone call, pulled directly from the satellite phone I had stolen from her room hours ago.
Victoria’s Voice: "Yes, I paid the Monaco magistrate to backdate the marriage certificate. Five million euros. Dominic's signature is a forgery. Make sure the money clears the offshore account before the FBI catches wind of the Bianca Moretti connection."
Unknown Voice: "And the sabotage of the Rossi shipping lines?"
Victoria’s Voice: "My father is handling the port blockades. Once we trigger the default, the company is ours. Just make sure the little maid doesn't figure it out."
The audio file clicked off. The silence in the boardroom was so profound you could hear the hum of the air conditioning.
Victoria's face drained of all color, turning a sickly, ghostly white. Richard Vance leaped out of his chair, pointing a trembling finger at me. "That is an illegal wiretap! It is inadmissible!"
"It wasn't a wiretap," Dominic said, leaning back in his chair, a dangerous, victorious smile on his face. "It was a backup recording saved locally to a company-owned satellite phone that your daughter foolishly brought onto my private property. And the FBI agents waiting in the lobby found it incredibly compelling."
As if on cue, the glass doors of the boardroom slid open, and four federal agents walked in, badges flashing.
"Victoria Vance and Richard Vance," the lead agent said, stepping forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for corporate espionage, forgery, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit extortion. You have the right to remain silent."
Victoria began to scream hysterically, thrashing against the agents as they locked the cuffs around her wrists. She glared at me with absolute, venomous hatred. "You're nothing! You're just a maid! You'll never belong in this world!"
I stood up, walking slowly over to her. I looked down at her, feeling absolutely nothing but pity for the pathetic, broken woman. "I belong exactly where I choose to be," I said softly. "Enjoy prison, Victoria. I hear the uniforms are orange, but maybe you can get them tailored."
They dragged her out of the room, her father following in stunned, defeated silence. The threat was finally, permanently extinguished.
Three weeks later.
The spring sunshine poured through the massive glass ceiling of the estate conservatory, illuminating thousands of blooming white roses. The very room that had once been a site of terror and conflict was now a breathtaking sanctuary of light and life.
I stood at the end of an aisle made of white silk, looking at the man waiting for me at the altar. Dominic looked incredibly handsome, his eyes shining with absolute adoration, unwavering devotion, and total peace. Carmela sat in the front row, wiping away tears of joy with a lace handkerchief.
I walked down the aisle, no longer a maid, no longer a victim, and no longer fighting for my life. I had walked into the Rossi estate looking for a paycheck, and I had found my destiny. I had faced venomous threats, survived deadly sabotage, and stood my ground against ruthless dynasties.
Dominic took my hands in his as I reached the altar, his thumb gently tracing the silver scar on my cheek.
"You are the heart of this empire, Skylar," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "You saved me. You saved us all."
May you like
"I love you, Dominic," I promised, looking up at my protector, my partner, my everything. "Forever."
We exchanged our vows under the golden sunshine, sealing our unbreakable bond with a kiss that made the entire room erupt in cheers. I was exactly where I belonged. I was Skylar Rossi. And my reign was just beginning.
