Chapter 5 - The Queen Of The Rossi Estate

One year later.
The spring sunshine poured through the massive glass ceiling of the estate conservatory, illuminating thousands of blooming white roses. The very room that had once been the site of a terrifying attempted murder was now completely transformed into a breathtaking sanctuary of light and life.
The legal battles had been swift and brutal. Facing the undeniable evidence from the red ledger and the toxicological analysis of the diamond ring, Marcus and Bianca Moretti both pleaded guilty to conspiracy, corporate fraud, and attempted murder. They were currently serving fifty year sentences in a maximum security federal prison. The Moretti shipping empire was completely liquidated, and the stolen funds were returned to the Rossi trust.
More importantly, Carmela was thriving.
With the toxic stress of Bianca presence completely gone, and thanks to a new team of world class neurologists Dominic hired, Carmela dementia symptoms had stabilized dramatically. She spent her days painting in the gardens, completely safe and deeply loved.
I was no longer wearing a black and white maid uniform.
I was wearing a stunning, custom designed silk gown in a deep emerald green that perfectly complimented my curves. My hair was professionally styled, and the faint silver scar on my cheek was a proud badge of honor, a reminder of the day my life completely changed.
I stood near the grand fountain in the center of the conservatory, watching the water cascade over the marble statues.
Footsteps echoed softly on the stone tiles behind me. Two strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, and a warm kiss was pressed softly against my neck.
"You look absolutely breathtaking," Dominic whispered, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"I feel like a completely different person," I smiled, leaning back against his solid chest. "Sometimes I still expect someone to hand me a polishing cloth."
Dominic chuckled, turning me around to face him. He looked incredibly handsome in a sharp charcoal suit. His eyes were filled with absolute adoration and an unwavering devotion that still made my heart skip a beat every single time he looked at me.
"You are the heart of this home, Skylar," Dominic said softly, reaching out to gently trace the small scar on my cheek. "You saved my mother. You saved my family legacy. And you saved me from a life that was completely empty."
He took a step back, and my breath caught in my throat as he slowly dropped down onto one knee right there in the middle of the roses.
Dominic reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He flipped it open. Inside rested a magnificent, flawless sapphire surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds. It was not a cold, weaponized piece of jewelry. It was a beautiful, vintage family heirloom.
"This ring belonged to my grandmother," Dominic said, his voice filled with deep, unwavering emotion. "It represents true loyalty, fierce protection, and unconditional love. Everything that you are. Skylar, you are the bravest, most beautiful woman I have ever known. Will you marry me and become the true lady of this estate?"
Tears of pure joy spilled over my eyelashes. I looked down at the man who had burned his entire world to the ground just to keep me safe. I did not need to think about my answer for even a single second.
"Yes," I sobbed happily, nodding my head. "Yes, Dominic. Absolutely yes."
He smiled brilliantly, taking the ring from the box and sliding it onto my finger. It fit perfectly. He stood up and pulled me into a deep, sweeping kiss as the warm spring breeze rustled the rose bushes around us.
Later that evening, we celebrated our engagement with a private, intimate dinner. Carmela sat at the head of the table, raising a glass of sparkling cider with a lucid, joyful smile. I sat beside Dominic, our hands intertwined perfectly under the table.

I had walked into the Rossi estate as a simple housekeeper looking for a paycheck. I had faced a venomous threat, survived a deadly poison, and stood my ground against a ruthless dynasty. And now, I was exactly where I belonged.
I was going to be Skylar Rossi. And I was going to live happily ever after.
