Chapter 8 - DANIEL STOPPED CALLING IT AN ACCIDENT

For months, Daniel maintained that he had never intended for anyone to die.

He claimed he had only wanted us unconscious.

Why?

His explanation changed.

To frighten me.

To create time to move money.

To make me look medically unstable.

Each version became less convincing when compared with the draft email and phone call.

Eventually, faced with the evidence, Daniel accepted legal responsibility for serious criminal conduct rather than forcing Noah and me through a full trial.

I did not celebrate.

People expected me to.

They wanted:

Justice.

Closure.

A sentence.

A dramatic final look across the courtroom.

I wanted to stop hearing Daniel’s voice in my kitchen.

That took therapy, not a judge.
