Chapter 4 - EVELYN’S NOTEBOOK

Evelyn kept handwritten notes.
That surprised everyone except me.
She had always loved lists.
What Noah wore.
When he ate.
How long he slept.
How I held him.
What I fed him.
At first I thought she was obsessive.
Now the purpose looked different.
One entry said:
Sarah refused to hand Noah over despite visibly shaking.
Reality:
I had just finished nursing him.
Another:
Sarah raised voice when advised she needed rest.
Reality:
Evelyn had walked into my bedroom without knocking and tried to remove Noah from my arms while I was asleep.
Another:
Concern: attachment becoming unhealthy.
I stared at those words.
Attachment.
Between a mother and her three-week-old baby.
Pathologized.
Because I did not surrender him when told.
Then came a page written two days before the assault.
If she leaves, Marcus should request emergency temporary custody immediately. We have enough documentation.
My hands went numb.
They had discussed custody before I ever discussed leaving.
Why?
Because I had told Marcus I wanted Evelyn to go back to her own house.
That was all.
I had not threatened divorce.
I had asked for privacy.
May you like
They heard rebellion.
