Chapter 7 - The Digital PhantomYou do not fight a billionaire predator by playing defense. By the time you build a wall, they have already poisoned the ground beneath it.

By noon, my executive boardroom had been transformed into a militarized cyber-intelligence bunker. Julian stood at the head of the table, projecting Victoria Vance’s corporate footprint onto the smart-board. Grant, it turned out, had parlayed his pathetic sob story into a job as Victoria’s "consultant"—a glorified lapdog used to exploit his intimate knowledge of my life.
"Victoria isn't just stopping our construction," my Director of Public Relations, Chloe, said, bursting into the room. She looked terrified. "She is launching a full-scale character assassination to force our clients to abandon us."
Chloe dropped a tablet onto the table. Playing on the screen was a highly produced video advertisement for Slink. But it wasn't selling software. It featured a stunning, flawlessly beautiful woman with glowing skin, speaking directly to the camera, claiming that my financial firm was a Ponzi scheme designed to launder money.
"Who is this woman?" I demanded, my blood turning to ice. "This is blatant defamation. Have legal sue her immediately."
"We can't sue her," Chloe whispered. "She doesn't exist. She’s a virtual KOC—an artificial intelligence influencer created by Slink. Victoria is using a digital phantom to assassinate your character because an AI can't be held in contempt of court."
"Look at the metrics," Julian pointed to the screen, his jaw tight. "This video has ten million views in three hours. That kind of organic growth is mathematically impossible."
I called in Elias, a top-tier cyber-forensics hacker we kept on retainer. Within an hour, Elias had dissected the digital architecture of Victoria’s smear campaign.
"It’s a massive, coordinated digital laundering scheme," Elias explained, pulling up a web of data nodes. "Slink’s marketing division is forcing this campaign down the internet's throat. They are using thousands of Facebook VIA clone accounts to artificially inflate engagement. But to bypass the strict defamation filters, they are buying cheap, black-market traffic exclusively from websites rejected by Google advertising."
My eyes widened as I processed the sheer, malicious genius of the strategy. Victoria was purchasing illegal shadow traffic, funneling it through clone accounts that technically complied with Facebook standards, and weaponizing it to legitimize her virtual KOC.
"If our clients see these metrics, they will panic," I said, leaning over the table. "Victoria is going to use the manufactured outrage to demand a federal investigation, freezing our firm while she steals the land."

"We can file for an emergency injunction," Julian offered.
"No," I commanded, my voice echoing with freezing authority. "Victoria is relying on the illusion that her virtual influencer is an independent whistleblower. We aren't going to fight her in court. We are going to let the puppet cut its own strings."
