The screen wasn't displaying the ultrasound files or a standard phone menu. It displayed a live, synchronized, high-priority notification screen from the federal compliance matrix and the State Medical Licensing Board.
Julian’s eyes scanned the text, and for the first time since I had known him, the color completely drained from his face. His handsome features began to warp, the aristocratic composure evaporating into a pale, sweating mask of raw fury.
"The digital photographs I took fifteen minutes ago didn't just sit in a local drive, Julian," I spoke into the heavy, suffocating silence of the examination room. As of exactly 9:28 a.m., an emergency federal injunction has been executed against Reed Medical Holdings."
He stepped toward me, his hands curling into fists, his breath coming in short, ragged gasps. "You old bitch, you think a few fake photos can touch me? I own the board! I’ll have those files deleted before the hour is out!"
"You don't understand the system you're dealing with," I replied, my voice completely devoid of emotion. "The automated protocol has already suspended your private medical practice privileges. Your corporate credentials have been revoked, your bank accounts associated with Reed Medical Holdings have been frozen under a temporary federal asset preservation order, and the state police are currently entering the lobby downstairs."

"Elena, call security!" Julian roared, turning toward the terrified technician, his voice cracking with panic as his constructed reality began to dissolve around him. "Call them now! Tell them we have an intruder in Room 4!"
But Elena didn't move. She was staring past him, her eyes wide with horror as the heavy double doors of the ultrasound pavilion burst open, the sound of heavy tactical boots echoing against the linoleum.
