Chapter 15: A New Heartbeat

The troopers dragged Julian out of the room, his desperate, furious shouts fading down the cherry-wood hallway until they were completely swallowed by the murmurs of his shocked medical staff. As we stepped through the glass atrium and into the clean, crisp autumn air outside, the ultrasound monitor’s rhythm seemed to follow us in the quiet space of our minds—steady, safe, and finally, beautifully home.
