She admitted tampering with Richard’s drink, stealing foundation money, obstructing internal reports, and helping Adrian prepare the false succession plan.
Her cooperation allowed investigators to recover hidden accounts and authenticate the disposable messages.
At sentencing, she addressed Richard.
“I did not want you dead.”
Richard looked at her.
“You were willing not to know whether I would live.”
Celeste lowered her eyes.
That was more accurate.
She had spent months calling herself coerced because Adrian knew about the stolen foundation money. Yet she had rejected several opportunities to confess safely.
She chose secrecy because the Whitmore name had become the life she feared losing.
The court considered Adrian’s pressure but refused to treat it as complete control. Celeste received incarceration, restitution obligations, and permanent removal from charitable and fiduciary positions.
Richard filed for divorce.
He did not claim their entire marriage had been false. That would have made his own years easier to explain.
Celeste had loved him.
Then she began protecting her place beside him more than the man himself.
