Chapter 6 - THE FALL OF VICTOR LANGFORD

The boardroom exploded into utter chaos.
Reporters gasped, camera shutters clicked frantically, and board members leaped up from their seats in astonishment.
"This is outrage!" Victor roared, his face flushing deep crimson as he slammed his coffee mug onto the table, shattering it. "Preston, have you completely lost your mind?! You're accusing your partner of fifteen years based on the ramblings of a maid's toddler?!"
"It wasn't just her word, Victor," Preston said calmly.
Preston nodded to Ethan Brooks, who pressed a remote control key.
The massive digital presentation screens in the boardroom illuminated instantly, displaying high-resolution toxicology reports from the state crime lab, complete with chemical breakdowns of Aconitine-7.
Next, the screens displayed Victor’s secret Cayman Islands bank statements, showing the thirty-million-dollar wire transfers from Aegis Global Industrial.
Finally, the screen displayed the text message Victor had sent to Marcus Vance at midnight, ordering the assassination of Denise and Mabel.
Victor’s face drained of all color. He staggered backward against the glass window, his breathing coming in ragged, desperate gasps.
"You... you knew..." Victor stammered, his suave demeanor disintegrating into pure terror.
"I knew the moment this brave little girl opened her mouth," Preston declared, his voice booming across the boardroom like thunder. "You sold out our company, you attempted to destroy four thousand working-class families, and you tried to murder an innocent child to cover your tracks."
The side doors of the boardroom burst open.
Six uniformed federal agents from the FBI, led by Special Agent Vance, marched into the room with weapons drawn.
"Victor Langford!" Agent Vance announced loudly. "You are under arrest for attempted murder, corporate espionage, conspiracy, and wire fraud!"
Federal agents seized Victor’s arms, pulling his hands behind his back and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.

As Victor was dragged out of the boardroom past the flashing news cameras, he turned his head, locking eyes with three-year-old Mabel.
Mabel simply smiled softly, waving her purple crayon at him as he was led away to spend the rest of his life in a federal prison.
