Chapter 6 - JASON WANTED HALF THE STORY TO COUNT

Jason asked for mediation.

Not marriage counseling.

Custody.

He wanted equal parenting time immediately.

I did not oppose him being Emma’s father.

I opposed pretending what happened did not matter.

During mediation, Jason said:

“I never hit her.”

Correct.

Then:

“My mother overreacted.”

Closer.

Then:

“But Lauren escalated everything.”

There it was.

Half-truth as defense.

I asked:

“Did you tell Emma to apologize after your mother hit her?”

Silence.

Finally:

“Yes.”

“Did you tell me your mother had a right to correct her?”

“I was upset.”

“Did you move money out of Emma’s account?”

His attorney objected to blending financial and custody disputes.

Fair.

Different tracks.

But the answer still existed.

Jason looked at me.

“I was trying to protect family assets.”

“From whom?”

He said nothing.

Because only one answer existed.

Me.

The woman who had helped earn and save them.
