Chapter 6 - PATRICIA CALLED IT A FAMILY MATTER

Patricia’s attorney contacted mine.

By then, I had a lawyer.

So did Daniel.

That told you what had happened to our marriage.

Patricia wanted the situation “resolved privately.”

Her message said:

This family has already suffered enough.

I laughed when I read it.

My attorney, Sarah Kim, did not.

“What do you want?”

“I don’t control the criminal process.”

“Correct.”

“I want no contact between Patricia and Lily.”

“Understood.”

“And me.”

“Yes.”

Then I added:

“I don’t want Daniel taking Lily around her either.”

That became the difficult part.

Daniel was Lily’s father.

He loved her.

He had not hit me.

He had not dropped her.

But he still believed, at first, that cutting his mother off permanently was “too extreme.”

That sentence made my decision easier.

Not divorce immediately.

Not yet.

But separation.

Until Daniel understood that protecting Lily was not an insult to Patricia.

May you like

It was parenting.
