Chapter 12: The Iron Bloodline

The seasons changed, and the Rossi empire continued its relentless expansion. But the most profound shift in our dynasty did not happen in a boardroom; it happened in the quiet, sacred sanctuary of our penthouse.
It was a late autumn evening. The city was ablaze with the golden and orange hues of sunset. I was standing in our master suite, holding a small, white plastic stick in my trembling hands. Two pink lines stared back at me.
I was pregnant.
A wave of overwhelming emotion crashed over me. Joy, terror, and a fierce, primal protectiveness instantly took root in my soul. I was carrying the heir to the Rossi empire. I was carrying Nico's child.
The heavy bedroom door opened, and Nico walked in. He had just returned from a brutal negotiation with a South American oil conglomerate. He looked exhausted, his tie loosened, his jacket slung over his shoulder, but the moment his eyes found me standing by the window, the weariness vanished.
"Luna?" Nico asked, his voice sharp with immediate concern, sensing the shift in the atmosphere. He dropped his jacket and crossed the room in three massive strides. "What is it? What’s wrong?"
I couldn't speak. I simply held out the test.
Nico stopped dead. He stared at the two pink lines for what felt like an eternity. The ruthless, terrifying billionaire, the man who commanded global markets with a flick of his wrist, stood completely paralyzed.
Slowly, he looked up at me. His dark eyes were wide, shining with a profound, shattering emotion that I had never seen before. Tears—actual tears—welled in his eyes.
"Luna," Nico choked out, his voice rough and broken.
He fell to his knees. Right there in the middle of our bedroom, the king of New York dropped to the floor. He wrapped his strong arms around my waist, pressing his face against my stomach, his broad shoulders trembling.
"My queen," Nico whispered against the silk of my dress, his voice thick with a devotion so absolute it defied the laws of nature. "My life. My soul."
I sank to my knees perfectly in front of him, taking his handsome face in my hands, wiping the tears from his cheeks. "We are going to have a child, Nico. A true heir."
Nico pulled me into a fierce, consuming embrace, burying his face in my neck. "I will burn the world to the ground to keep the two of you safe," he swore, a dark, lethal vow that echoed through the quiet room. "No one will ever touch you. No one will ever threaten what is ours."
But the news of an impending heir always breeds desperation among the wolves.
Two months later, my pregnancy was still a fiercely guarded secret, known only to our private medical team. However, rumors of a shift in the Rossi dynamic had begun to circulate. Marcus Vance, a senior board member who had secretly harbored ambitions of taking Nico's place, decided to make his move.
During a quarterly board meeting, Marcus stood up, projecting a slide that highlighted a minor, deliberate delay in one of our Asian tech acquisitions.
"It seems our leadership is growing complacent," Marcus sneered, looking directly at Nico. "Perhaps the domestic bliss of a new marriage has dulled your edge, Nico. The board requires aggressive expansion, not a CEO who is distracted by his wife. I am proposing a vote of no confidence."
The boardroom, filled with twelve of the most powerful executives in the company, went dead silent. It was corporate treason.
Nico didn't yell. He didn't even stand up. He leaned back in his leather chair, a terrifying, demonic smile spreading across his face. He looked at me, sitting to his right in a tailored charcoal suit, my hands resting lightly over my slightly rounded stomach.
"Complacent," Nico mused softly. He turned his dead, black eyes back to Marcus. "You think I am complacent, Marcus. You think my wife is a distraction."
I stood up slowly, the silence in the room amplifying the sharp click of my stilettos. I walked to the head of the table.
"Marcus," I said, my voice dripping with ice. "Did you really think we wouldn't notice the offshore accounts you opened in the Caymans? Did you think I wouldn't trace the three million dollars you embezzled from the logistics division to fund this pathetic little coup?"
Marcus froze, the blood draining entirely from his face. "That... that is an absurd accusation! I demand—"
"You demand nothing," Nico’s voice snapped like a whip, silencing the room instantly. "You attempted to orchestrate a coup against my family while my wife is carrying the sole heir to the Rossi dynasty."
The executives gasped, eyes darting to my stomach in shock and sudden, absolute terror.
"You didn't just commit corporate treason, Marcus," Nico whispered, standing up, his massive frame dominating the room. "You threatened my bloodline."
"Nico, please," Marcus stammered, backing away from the table.
"Security," I commanded smoothly.
Four armed guards entered the room instantly.
"Remove him," I ordered. "Liquidate his shares. Freeze his assets. And hand the embezzlement files to the federal authorities waiting in the lobby."

As Marcus was dragged screaming from the boardroom, Nico turned his terrifying gaze to the remaining, trembling executives.
"Let this be the final lesson," Nico stated, his voice absolute. "My wife and my child are the foundation of this empire. Anyone who looks at them and sees a weakness will be entirely eradicated from the earth. Meeting adjourned."
