Chapter 9: The Parisian Threat

Six months after the wedding, the global landscape had entirely shifted under the weight of the Rossi monopoly.

The transition from a newlywed couple to the undisputed monarchs of the corporate world was seamless. I hadn't just married into the Rossi empire; I had integrated myself into its very DNA. My office was located directly adjacent to Nico’s on the top floor of the Rossi Tower, a sprawling suite of glass and obsidian where I commanded our European acquisitions with clinical precision.

It was a frigid Tuesday morning in January. The New York skyline was dusted with a fine layer of snow, but inside my office, the atmosphere was electric. I sat behind my massive marble desk, wearing a tailored, crimson-red Tom Ford power suit. My hair was pulled back into a severe, sleek chignon, and the massive emerald-cut diamond on my left hand caught the ambient light as I swiped through the encrypted tablet in front of me.

"They are testing our borders, Luna," Nico’s deep, resonant voice vibrated through the room.

He stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a crystal tumbler of scotch despite the early hour. He wore a bespoke charcoal suit that emphasized the broad, lethal lines of his shoulders. Even at fifty-two, the man radiated a dark, magnetic vitality that made younger men look like fragile boys. His silver hair caught the morning light, but his dark eyes were fixed on me with a mixture of predatory focus and absolute, unwavering worship.

"The Laurent Syndicate," I murmured, reading the financial dossiers my intelligence team had compiled over the weekend.

Julian Laurent was a French aristocrat and a prominent player in the European luxury and shipping sectors. For decades, his family had held a comfortable monopoly in the Mediterranean. But our recent acquisition of the Moretti lines had encroached on his territory. Rather than conceding gracefully, Julian had begun aggressively shorting our subsidiary stocks and attempting to bribe port officials in Marseille to delay Rossi cargo ships.

"Julian operates under the archaic delusion that aristocracy beats raw power," Nico said, walking slowly toward my desk. "He also made a rather fatal miscalculation during a private dinner in London last week. He told the European board that I had grown soft. He implied that my focus was entirely consumed by my beautiful young wife, leaving the Rossi empire vulnerable to a hostile restructuring."

I looked up, a cold, dangerous smile curving my lips. "He thinks I am a distraction."

"He thinks you are a trophy," Nico corrected softly. He rounded the desk and stopped beside my chair, his large, warm hand coming to rest possessively on the nape of my neck. His thumb stroked my skin, a gesture that sent a jolt of electricity down my spine. "He doesn't realize that the trophy is the one orchestrating his demise."

"He has leveraged the Laurent Syndicate’s primary tech holdings to fund this little war against our shipping lines," I analyzed, tapping the screen. "He’s exposed his flanks to protect his pride. If we initiate a massive, sudden buyout of his tech suppliers, his entire supply chain for his luxury goods division will collapse within forty-eight hours."

Nico leaned down, his face inches from mine, his dark eyes burning with a fierce, proud intensity. "You want to strip him of his crown."

"I want to melt his crown down and pour it over his legacy," I replied, my voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "He insulted my husband. He insulted our empire. I want the Laurent Syndicate completely dissolved by the end of the quarter."

Nico’s lips crashed down on mine. It was a hungry, consuming kiss, fueled by the intoxicating synergy of our shared power. I wrapped my hand in his silk tie, pulling him closer, matching his intensity. When we finally broke apart, Nico’s breathing was heavy, his gaze entirely feral.

"We leave for Paris on Friday," Nico commanded, his voice rough. "The Global Trade Summit is being held at the Louvre. Julian will be there, expecting to intimidate us on his home turf. We will let him strut. We will let him boast. And then, my Queen, you will execute him."
