Suddenly, the fire alarms screamed.
Panic erupted.
The elite guests pushed and shoved.
The lights went out.
Emergency sirens wailed.
“This way!” A security guard yelled.
He grabbed my mother’s arm.
“Wait!” I shouted.
But the terrified crowd separated us.
Caleb held onto me.
When the emergency lights flickered on...
My mother and Lily were gone.
“Lily!”
My heart stopped.
My phone buzzed.
One message.
“The roof.”
Caleb and I didn’t wait for the elevators.
We ran up the emergency stairs.
Three flights.
My lungs burned.
My mind raced.
I kicked open the heavy metal door to the roof.
The wind howled.
