Part 18: The Child's Voice

I took a step forward.

My hands were shaking.

I was ready to give up everything.

The money didn’t matter.

The legacy didn’t matter.

Only her.

“Okay,” I cried.

“I’ll sign it. Just don’t hurt her.”

But then...

Lily turned her head.

She looked back at me.

A close-up image burned into my mind forever.

Her tiny face was wet with tears.

But her eyes were suddenly so brave.

“Mom, don’t cry.”

Her tiny voice fought against the roaring wind.

“I love you.”

My breath hitched.

The world stopped spinning.

That sentence.

That pure, innocent bravery.

It broke the spell of fear.

It wasn’t a moment of defeat.

It was a wake-up call.

I looked at Julian.

And my tears stopped.
