Chapter 10 - The Picture Complete
One year later.
The grand ballroom of the Kane Estate—now completely renovated and filled with warm flowers, bright sunlight, and children's laughter—was set for a celebration.
It was Mia’s seventh birthday, as well as our official family housewarming party.
Friends, colleagues from Blackwell & Reed, and trusted family allies filled the grand hall. The old, cold atmosphere of the mansion was gone forever, replaced by music, warmth, and genuine happiness.
I stood near the grand fireplace, wearing an elegant emerald dress, holding a glass of champagne.
On the mantelpiece above the fireplace sat a new, beautifully carved silver photo frame.
Inside the frame was a photograph taken last month.
It showed Adrian, Mia, and me standing together on the beach in Montauk, laughing under the setting sun. Beside it sat the original, restored photograph of Julian, resting in peace, honored and remembered as an essential part of our story.
Adrian walked up behind me, wrapping his strong arms around my waist, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Kane?" he whispered softly in my ear.
"I'm thinking about how a six-year-old girl wandering into your office changed the course of our entire lives," I smiled, turning in his arms to look up at his handsome face.
"She knew what she was doing," Adrian chuckled, kissing my nose. "She's a brilliant negotiator. Just like her mother."
Down on the dance floor, Mia was spinning around in her birthday dress, holding Gerald the elephant, leading a group of her school friends in a joyful game of tag.
She stopped, looked over at us near the fireplace, and blew us a big kiss before running off to play again.
Adrian looked down at me, his eyes filled with profound love, warmth, and peace.
"Thank you for coming into my life, Clara," he said softly, sliding his hand up to cup my cheek. "You gave me a home."
"You gave us a future, Adrian," I replied softly, leaning up to press my lips gently against his.
