Chapter 6 - The Confrontation

The kiss was gentle at first, filled with quiet reverence, before deepening into a warm, breathless pulse that swept away every trace of doubt in my mind.
When Adrian slowly pulled back, his dark eyes were shining with intense emotion. His hand rested softly on my cheek, his thumb tracing my jawline.
"Adrian..." I breathed, my hands lingering against his chest. "Things are moving so fast."
"I know," he murmured, smiling gently. "I'm not asking for promises tonight, Clara. I just wanted you to know the truth. No more secrets."
The next morning, the storm broke open.
I woke up at 7:00 AM to the sound of raised voices near the penthouse entrance. I threw on a silk robe and hurried down the floating staircase, finding Adrian standing in the grand foyer, blocking the entrance.
Standing in the doorway was Victoria, accompanied by two men in dark suits holding leather briefcases, along with a man carrying a heavy camera lens.
"You can't keep me out, Adrian!" Victoria shouted, her voice echoing off the marble walls. "I have a court injunction allowing me to serve papers directly!"
"Get those cameras out of my hallway, Victoria, before I have my security team throw you all into the street," Adrian warned, his voice deadly calm.
"Mommy?" a small voice called out from behind me.
Mia stood at the top of the stairs, clutching Gerald the elephant, rubbing her sleepy eyes.
Victoria’s head snapped toward the staircase. Her eyes locked onto Mia, her expression darkening instantly. "So that's the child. The little bastard you're using to steal my company."
Instantly, a blinding rage flared inside me.
I stepped past Adrian, walking straight down the stairs until I was standing inches from Victoria's face.
"Do not ever use that word around my daughter," I said, my voice low, sharp, and terrifyingly clear. "You can attack me, you can attack my career, but if you look at my child with that venom again, I will personally ruin every social and financial standing you have left in this city."
Victoria blinked, caught off guard by the sheer ferocity in my voice.
"You have no authority here, Victoria," I continued, pressing the advantage. "Julian left extensive personal journals in Seattle. Journals that detail every single illegal financial wire transfer you forced him to sign before he left Manhattan. Do you really want me to submit those to the District Attorney's office during Friday's board meeting?"
Victoria's face turned completely white. "Journals?"
"He documented everything," I lied smoothly, keeping my posture rigid and confident. "Every bribe, every offshore account, every threat you made against his life. Leave now, or those documents hit the press by noon."
Victoria stared at me, realizing she was completely outmaneuvered. She backed away toward the elevator, her body trembling with suppressed rage.
"This isn't over," she spat out weakly.
"It is over, Victoria," Adrian said as the elevator doors began to close. "Don't come back."
The doors slid shut, sealing the floor in absolute silence.
I took a deep breath, my hands shaking slightly as the adrenaline slowly drained from my system.
Adrian walked over, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind, pulling me securely against his chest. "That was incredible," he whispered into my hair. "Did Julian really leave journals?"
May you like
"Not a single page," I admitted, turning around in his arms with a faint grin. "I made it all up."
Adrian threw his head back and laughed—a rich, booming sound that filled the entire penthouse. "God, I love you, Clara Vance."
