Chapter 9 - A New Beginning

Three months later.
Spring had arrived in Manhattan, bringing warm sunshine, green trees, and gentle breezes to Central Park.
The scandal surrounding Victoria Kane's arrest had dominated global financial news for weeks, resulting in her complete conviction and a life sentence without parole.
With Victoria permanently removed, Adrian was unanimously voted Chairman of the Board at Blackwell & Reed. His first official act was appointing me as the global Vice President of Creative Operations, securing my professional legacy forever.
On a bright Saturday afternoon, Central Park was filled with families enjoying the weekend.
Mia was running across the green lawn near the Bethesda Fountain, wearing a yellow sundress, chasing after Gerald the elephant—who was currently attached to a bright red helium balloon floating three feet above her head.
"Look, Mommy! Gerald is flying!" Mia squealed with delight, her laughter ringing clear through the warm air.
I sat on a wooden park bench, wearing a soft cream-colored sweater, sipping an iced latte, watching her with a heart full of absolute peace.
Adrian walked over from the nearby cafe, holding two ice cream cones. He wore casual dark jeans and a navy polo shirt, looking relaxed, happy, and entirely transformed from the cold billionaire I had known eight months ago.
He handed Mia an ice cream cone, making her cheer loudly before she ran off to show her balloon to a friendly golden retriever.
Adrian sat beside me on the bench, sliding his arm around my shoulders and pulling me close against his side.
"How are you feeling, VP Vance?" he murmured softly, pressing a kiss to my temple.
"I feel like I'm living in a dream," I admitted, resting my head against his chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart. "Six months ago, I was terrified of the future. Now... everything feels so bright."
"That's because you earned it, Clara," Adrian said gently. "You protected Mia, you fought for justice, and you brought light back into this family."
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small black velvet box.
My heart skipped a beat. I sat up, looking into his deep blue eyes.
"Adrian..." I whispered.
He took my hand, holding it gently between his. He didn't drop to one knee, nor did he make a dramatic scene. He simply looked at me with pure, unwavering devotion.
"I loved Julian, and I will honor his memory forever," Adrian said softly. "But my love for you and Mia is my own. I want to build a life with you, Clara. I want to be the husband you deserve, and the father Mia has been looking for."
He opened the box to reveal a stunning solitaire diamond ring, sparkling brilliant white in the afternoon sunlight.
"Clara Vance, will you marry me?" he asked gently.
Tears of pure happiness filled my eyes. "Yes," I choked out, smiling through my tears. "Yes, Adrian! Of course!"
He slid the ring onto my finger, pulling me into a deep, passionate kiss that made the rest of the world melt away completely.
A loud gasp sounded from the lawn.
We pulled back to see Mia standing in front of us, her mouth wide open in dramatic shock, her ice cream cone held high in the air.
"Are you kissing Mr. Handsome?!" Mia asked loudly.
Adrian laughed, picking her up effortlessly in his arms and holding her high on his hip. "I am, Mia. And starting today, you don't have to look for a daddy anymore."
Mia's eyes widened with pure excitement. "Really? Are you staying forever?"
"Forever and ever," Adrian promised, kissing her small cheek.

Mia wrapped her arms around his neck, resting her head on his shoulder, looking at me with a triumphant grin. "I told you, Mommy! I found you the best husband in the whole world!"
I laughed, wrapping my arms around both of them, stepping into the warm, everlasting light of the family we had built together.
