Chapter 10 - The Unseen Thread

At the city police headquarters, Alejandro sat in a stark, stainless-steel interrogation room. His high-priced defense attorney, Arthur Pendelton, sat beside him, looking increasingly uncomfortable.
Across the metal table sat Detective Miller and a prosecutor from the District Attorney’s Special Victims Unit.
“My client maintains that Mrs. Navarro suffered a momentary loss of balance due to exhaustion,” Pendelton stated smoothly, sliding a prepared statement across the table. “This is a tragic domestic accident that has been wildly blown out of proportion by Don Rafael Montes for corporate leverage.”
Detective Miller chuckled dryly. She turned on a digital media player connected to a speaker in the center of the table.
“Nadie va a creerte,” Alejandro’s voice echoed clearly through the small room, crisp and icy.
Then came the sound of a heavy slap, followed by Elena’s gasp, the sound of a body hitting the marble floor, and the immediate, terrified crying of a newborn infant.
“No voy a perder otra familia por culpa de una mujer que no sabe obedecer,” Alejandro’s recorded voice sneered.
Alejandro’s attorney closed his eyes and slowly pressed his hands against his forehead.
“We also have the sworn testimony of Victoria Navarro,” Detective Miller added, leaning forward. “As well as the medical records of Laura Vance, along with the financial audit revealing your unauthorized transfer of four million dollars yesterday morning.”
Alejandro’s composure completely disintegrated. He slammed his fists against the metal table.

“She set me up!” Alejandro roared, his eyes wild and bloodshot. “That bitch orchestrated the whole thing with her watch! She wanted to destroy my company!”
“Mr. Navarro,” the prosecutor said calmly, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs. “You are under arrest for felony domestic assault, child endangerment, and attempted grand larceny. You will be held without bail.”
