Chapter 27 - The Journey to Zurich

|

I left my father standing alone in his sunlit study, surrounded by the ruins of his thirty-year lie. I didn't say goodbye. I couldn't look at him without seeing the master puppeteer who had traded my freedom for corporate survival.

By noon, I was aboard a private jet flying over the snow-capped Alps toward Zurich, Switzerland.

Mateo sat across from me in the cabin, checking his sidearm and reviewing the tactical maps of the Swiss financial district.

"Elena, this is madness," Mateo warned, his voice tight with concern. "We are walking directly into enemy territory. Swiss authorities won't protect us if Valentin Vance owns the banks."

"Valentin doesn't just want money, Mateo," I said, looking out the window at the endless sea of white mountains below. "He wants control. He spent thirty years building a web around my family, and I destroyed his favored pawn when I sent Alejandro to prison."

"What is the plan once we land?" Mateo asked.

"We go to Bank Account 409," I replied, pulling the silver flash drive from my pocket. "Valentin thinks I'm coming to surrender. He thinks I'm a frightened girl coming to beg for my son's life."

"And aren't you afraid?" Mateo asked gently.

I looked at my reflection in the dark glass window. The naive, timid woman who had tolerated Alejandro's cruelty was dead. In her place sat a mother who had fought through hell to protect her child.

"I used to be afraid of the dark, Mateo," I said softly. "Now I am the thing waiting in it."
