Chapter 32 - The Vault On Fire

|
Before Valentin’s guards could pull their triggers, I pressed the red button on the brass remote.
A high-frequency acoustic pulse detonated from the small device on the table. The sudden, ear-splitting screech shattered the glass carafe on the table and blinded the guards' night-vision headsets, sending them stumbling backward, clutching their ears in agony.
Mateo moved like lightning. He tackled the first guard to the floor, disarming him with a swift, brutal strike to the wrist, and fired two non-lethal rounds into the second guard's armor.
Valentin gasped, scrambling backward toward a secret escape hatch at the rear of the vault.
"Mateo! Don't let him reach the hatch!" I yelled over the deafening alarm sirens echoing through the concrete bunker.
Mateo lunged forward, grabbing Valentin by his expensive suit lapels and throwing him onto the hard marble floor. The old man gasped for air, his cold blue eyes filled with shock as Mateo pinned his hands behind his back.
The heavy steel vault doors were kicked open from the outside.
Dozens of Swiss Federal Police officers poured into the subterranean room, tactical gear gleaming, weapons raised.
"Federal Police! Nobody move!" a commander barked in sharp German.
I slowly raised my hands, stepping away from the table, looking down at Valentin Vance lying defeated on the cold floor.
"Valentin Vance, you are under arrest for money laundering, racketeering, and conspiracy to commit murder," the commander announced, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around the old titan's wrists.

Valentin glared up at me, his face twisted in pure rage. "This isn't over, Elena! My organization... my people... they will tear your foundation to pieces!"
"Your organization is broke, Valentin," I whispered, looking down at him with utter disdain. "And you are just a ghost."
