Chapter 47 - The Trap Springs

The champagne flute shattered in my hand, driving shards of glass into my palm, but I didn't flinch. In a fraction of a second, I dropped the velvet clutch, my hand darting to the slit in my dress.
I drew the ceramic throwing knife and lunged at Julian's throat.
But Julian had been anticipating it. He stepped back with terrifying speed, snapping his fingers. Before my blade could connect, two massive bodyguards stepped out from the shadows of the VIP lounge, tackling me to the marble floor.
The heavy impact knocked the breath from my lungs. One guard pinned my arms behind my back, while the other wrenched the ceramic blade from my grip, tossing it over the balcony.
"Restrain her," Julian ordered, wiping a single drop of my blood from his lapel where the glass had cut him. "Bring her to the holding cells below the vault. We will extract the ledger's location from her mind, piece by piece."
The guards dragged me to my feet, hauling me forcefully toward the private elevators at the back of the lounge. My earpiece was completely dead, filled only with the white noise of Julian's signal jammer.
If his men had truly breached the Chicago safehouse, Audrey and Nicolás were either captured or dead. The thought of my son in the hands of the Viper syndicate ignited a feral, uncontrollable rage deep within my chest.
As the elevator doors slid open, I stopped fighting their grip. I let my body go entirely limp.
The sudden shift in dead weight caught the guard on my left off balance. As he stumbled forward to compensate, I used his momentum against him. I swung my legs up, wrapping my thighs tightly around his neck in a flying scissor choke.

With a brutal twist of my hips, I slammed his head into the steel frame of the elevator door. He crumpled instantly.
The second guard reached inside his tuxedo jacket for his sidearm, but I was already moving. I kicked off the unconscious guard’s chest, launching myself backward, and drove the sharp, stiletto heel of my shoe directly into the second guard's kneecap.
