A month later, a gentle knock sounded at Elena’s apartment door.
Elena checked the security camera display—a new habit she maintained—and saw Victoria standing in the hallway holding a small bouquet of white lilies.
Elena opened the door, standing in the doorway without stepping aside. “Victoria.”
Victoria looked frail. The scandal had aged her significantly, stripping away the polished arrogance that had defined her for decades. She had officially resigned from all board positions at the Navarro Group and moved out of the grand mansion.
“Elena,” Victoria said, her voice hesitant. “I brought these for you. And… a small gift for Nicolás.”
Elena looked at the flowers, then at the older woman’s eyes.
“I am not going to invite you in for tea, Victoria,” Elena said clearly and calmly. “And I am not going to pretend that what happened in that mansion didn't happen.”
Victoria swallowed hard, tears rising in her eyes. “I know. I don't expect you to. I came to tell you that I have officially deposited my personal shares of the family trust into a non-revocable educational fund for Nicolás that neither Alejandro nor I can ever touch.”
She set the bouquet and a small gift box on the console table near the entrance.
“I was a terrible mother-in-law, Elena,” Victoria whispered. “And I was a terrible mother. My silence almost destroyed two innocent lives. I just wanted you to know that I am finally trying to take responsibility.”
Elena looked at the woman who had once watched her bleed on the floor.

“Acknowledging your silence is a start, Victoria,” Elena said quietly. “If you want to have any relationship with your grandson in the future, it will be under strict, court-supervised terms, step by step.”
Victoria nodded gratefully, wiping her eyes. “That is more than I deserve. Thank you, Elena.”
