Chapter 11 - The Swiss Ledger

Three days later, Elena was officially discharged from the hospital.
Rafael had instructed his staff to prepare the grand master suite at the Montes Estate—a sprawling, heavily guarded mansion with forty acres of private land, armed guards, and state-of-the-art amenities.
As the sleek black limousine pulled up to the hospital entrance, Rafael opened the door for his daughter.
“Everything is ready at the estate, Elena,” Rafael said warmly. “I’ve hired a full-time pediatric nursing team, private security, and whatever else you and Nicolás need.”
Elena stood on the curb, feeling the cool afternoon breeze against her skin. She looked at her father’s grand limousine, then down at the stroller carrying her son.
“No, Papa,” Elena said softly but firmly.
Rafael blinked, caught off guard. “What do you mean, 'no'?”
“I am not moving into the Montes Estate,” Elena explained gently. “If I move into your mansion, I am just swapping one golden cage for another. I am swapping Alejandro’s control for your protection.”
Rafael’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Elena, it is dangerous out there. Alejandro’s family still has power—”
“And I have my own voice now,” Elena interrupted, stepping closer and taking her father’s hands. “I appreciate everything you did, Papa. You saved my life that night. But helping me does not mean deciding my life for me.”
Rafael stared at his daughter for a long moment. For the first time in years, he didn't see the quiet, agreeable girl who let others dictate her choices. He saw a woman forged in fire.
A slow, proud smile spread across the old man’s face.

“Alright,” Rafael agreed softly. “What do you need?”
“Help me find an apartment,” she smiled. “A small one.”
